About me :
I went to Grand Valley State University for my undergraduate degree in Athletic Training, and graduated in 2011. I then went to get my Masters Degree from Western Michigan University and graduated in 2013. Following that I worked at for a PT clinic and Holland Christian High School for 2 years before coming here to work Center for Physical Rehab and Catholic Central.
What I do:
Athletic Trainers are specialists in athletic orthopedic injuries, which include assessment, prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation of injuries and illnesses in athletics. I work for the Center for Physical Rehabilitation, which is a family owned physical therapy company in the Grand Rapids area. We also work in conjunction with Spectrum Health and have two orthopedic team physicians we work directly with. Dr. Jason Lazor, DO, is our non-surgical orthopedic sports medicine physician. Dr. Kendall Hamilton, MD, is our Orthopedic Surgeon who specializes in surgical athletic cases through Spectrum Health.
What do I consider a good day at work:
A good day at work includes getting to listen to music while doing treatment, tape, and preparing for practices or games. I love days when the atmosphere in the training room is alive and everyone is happy to be there.
The most rewarding part of my job:
The most rewarding part of my job is watching an athlete run for the first time after a big injury. It’s like watching a baby take their first steps. There’s an amazing combination of fear, excitement, and strength that you won’t see any other time in life.
My very first job was delivering pizza for papa johns! I paid for college with that job.
Something that might surprise you about me is that I ran a half marathon. Don’t ask HOW, but I did it…never again.
I watch Law and Order: SVU every chance I get, I have 2 cats, and a fish, I love singing and dancing, and I enjoy late night shopping sprees at Meijer.
